Vancouver Island Home Builders Welcome New President

NANAIMO – The Canadian Home Builders’ Association – Vancouver Island (CHBA-VI) recently held its AGM this month. The Board of Directors has announced that Jason Schmidt of Pheasant Hill Homes, is the new President of the CHBA-VI, assuming the role from Byron Gallant from B.Gallant Homes

“I am honoured to represent the members of CHBA-Vancouver Island. This is an exciting time for the home building industry as construction activity is up on all areas of the island,” he says.

“Our mandate continues to be the voice of residential construction on Vancouver Island as we work to raise the bar for industry professionalism through education and training of our members, advocacy efforts to ensure housing affordability, and consumer awareness initiatives.”

The Board of Directors thanks Gallant for his years of dedication as President of the CHBA-VI. His commitment to upholding the standards of the association and representing members is outstanding. The Board also thanks outgoing Treasurer, Rob MacCallum, Travelers Insurance and outgoing Director Elise Morgan, Integral Wealth Management. Welcome to new Directors Blaise MacDonald, MAC Renovations and Michelle Woodruff, The Brick.

The AGM was capped off by a round table discussion moderated by John Drazic, FortisBC, with builder members Ken Connolly, Pheasant Hill Homes from Nanaimo, Ron Bickford, Rob-Ron Construction based in Victoria, and Gur Minhas, Satgur Developments in Nanaimo. Also in attendance were special guests Mr. Leonard Krog, MLA Nanaimo, Mr. Jon Lefebure, Mayor of North Cowichan, and Mr. Bill McKay, Mayor of Nanaimo.

Topics of discussion included the current state of the market, the impact of building code and stretch code changes, working with municipalities, housing affordability, hiring and retaining skilled trades and the new education requirements implemented through the Homeowner Protection Office as a condition of builder licensing.
