CanExport Helps 500 Canadian SMEs Reach International Markets

CANADA – CanExport has been able to support 500 Canadian small and medium-sized businesses (SMEs) with funding since the program started this year.

Launched in January 2016 by the Ministers Chrystia Freeland and Bardish Chagger, CanExport provides financial support to help Canadian SMEs develop new international markets and increase their contribution to Canada’s economy.

The initiative provides Canadian SMEs with matching contributions of between $10,000 and $100,000 toward export development costs related to their entry into a new market. To date, more than $15.2 million has been committed to support Canadian SMEs entering new markets.

CanExport offers a simple process and a quick turnaround for decisions, making it accessible and easy for small companies who need support to grow. Approved CanExport projects can include eligible activities and expenses starting 25 business days after companies submit their application and can take place over many months.

To date, successful applicants have been supported in a broad range of endeavours in all regions of the globe—from innovative technology for monitoring water quality in India to Canadian jewellery accessing the Chinese market to customized information technology solutions and products for service providers in Finland.

Canadian SMEs planning or considering upcoming international business development activities in new markets are encouraged to apply for funding.
