March 6, 2018

COURTENAY – North Island College‘s Career Fair is back with expanded hours and new support from major employers across the region. The 8th annual event takes place Thursday, March 22 from 11 am to 3 pm at the Florence Filberg Centre in Courtenay. Admission is free and everyone is welcome.

“NIC’s Career Fair is your opportunity to make face‐to‐face contact with employers across the region all in one place,” said Anita Budisa‐Bonneau, NIC’s coordinator of work integrated education. “Students and community members get a chance to network, show off their skills and research career opportunities while employers can meet a wide range of potential employees.”

With Vancouver Island’s hot job market, many employers are looking for the best candidates to fill key positions.

Career Fair participants this year include top hotels and resorts, banks, credit unions and investment firms as well as education, trades and retail employers, including Costco, the Old House Hotel & Spa, School District 71 and Island Health, to name a few.

Platinum sponsor BC Ferries, gold sponsors Creative Employment Access Society (the JobShop) and the Ministry of Advanced Education, Skills and Training (WorkBC) and silver sponsor Grieg Seafood will present to help job seekers broaden their skills and find the right fit for in‐demand careers.

The JobShop’s presentation, Prepare for Automation: Training for and Working in a Changing Labour Market, begins at 12:15 pm, while BC Ferries presents at 11:15 am, WorkBC at 1:15 pm and Grieg Seafood at 2:15 pm.

“We hope those attending the Career Fair visit us at our table and take in our presentation,” said Bruce Brautigan, JobShop executive director. “We offer a wide range of services for people looking for that new career or job and we’re looking forward to connecting with them.”

A shuttle service between NIC’s Comox Valley campus and the Filberg Centre will run every half hour starting at 10:30 am until the fair ends at 3 pm. The bus will pick up and drop off from the campus bus loop.

In addition to this year’s Career Fair, Student Employment Services has also launched CareerCentral, a new job board that allows employers to quickly post job openings and connect directly with NIC students and graduates. The service can be accessed here
