VICTORIA – The Vancouver Island Construction Association (VICA) has been awarded the Partner Association Award of Excellence at the Canadian Construction Association’s (CCA) Annual Conference taking place March 6-10 in New Orleans.

“We are incredibly honoured to receive this recognition,” said Greg Baynton, CEO of VICA. “Many factors are driving rapid change in how infrastructure is delivered and this presents challenges and opportunities for the construction community.

“With the support of industry partners, VICA has provided the necessary leadership to bring the broader construction community together to explore infrastructure delivery best practices and to continue building a more cohesive construction community.”

The past two years have been exceptional for VICA, with highlights and achievements that include the following:

  • Spearheading the formation of the Construction Council of Vancouver Island (CCVI) and bringing together owners, consultants, contractors, and other stakeholders for sector roundtables and the annual Capital Project Delivery Forum
  • Ongoing efforts in building government relations that reflect the industry’s interest in procurement and the goal of fair, open, and transparent best practices for project delivery
  • Obtaining Gold Seal credits for new programs, like Infection Control and Proposal Writing; and
  • Creating and launching Welcome to the Construction Site, a program that prepares potential employees for life on a construction site.

The criteria for the CCA’s Partner Association Award of Excellence looks at the association’s efforts in industry enhancement through government relations and public relations; education, including new programs and courses; and membership support in the areas of growth and innovation.

VICA Board of Directors, Katy Fairley from Kinetic Construction and Gerrit Vink from Farmer Construction, accepted the award in New Orleans on behalf of VICA on the morning of March 9, 2016.

Alan Fletcher, Chairman of VICA’s Board of Directors, extended his gratitude to the board, committees, membership, and VICA’s staff.

“We work closely together for the betterment of Vancouver Island’s construction industry, the people who work in it, and the communities they live in,” he states.
