The Summerland Chamber of Commerce held their Annual General Meeting and Election of Officers Tuesday March 26 as part of their Tourism Showcase Business After Business event.

The meeting started with the members present adopting a new set of bylaws for the organization. Executive Director David D. Hull walked the assembled through the new documents saying, “The previous bylaws from 2010 were so out of date and not in compliance that amendments were not practical so we started from scratch and developed new bylaws.”

Major changes to the bylaws saw the elimination of the past president position and implementation of term limits for board members. The balance of the new sections was to ensure compliance with Industry Canada requirements and modern communication options for meetings.

A slate of candidates for the 2019 – 2020 board was presented for consideration by the membership. The recommendations of the Nominating Committee were unanimously accepted.

Hull explained the two vacancies in the report can be filled by the board as per the bylaws saying, “The treasurer position has a bit of specific expertise required and the director position, with one year remaining, was vacated after the nominations were closed.”

The board was sworn in by Summerland Mayor Toni Boot.
